How Excise Tax is Calculated?
Vehicle excise tax in Maine is based on the Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) and the age of the vehicle. The tax is calculated on a depreciating scale over time, meaning newer vehicles are assessed at a higher value than older ones.
Excise tax is required annually for all registered vehicles in the State of Maine.
